Sharing a Filemaker file via client-side sharing is done in FileMaker by going to the File -> Sharing -> FileMaker Network (or windows equivalent) in FileMaker Pro, you turn it on from here.

You may be getting confused, it does not work for simply accessing another computer on the network and looking at any database files on that computer - they must be explicitly shared. Open remote is only used for accessing databases which are shared either via FileMaker client sharing, or FileMaker Server sharing. Sorry, I hate for my first post here to be whiney noob stuff but I can't find any reference to this anywhere and I've spent a couple hours trying to figure this one out and I'm stumped. Run back up and try to open the runtime on the XP box, it barks, no can do, some one else has it open. Exit that application and then open it on the Vista box.

There is nothing populated in the HOSTS box in the Open Remote dialog box. I can't remote open if I can't get to the file. There is no way to browse for a full path and I've tried several different attempts to type in a remote path but they all get rejected. I tried to open the run time database with the regular open file process on the Vista box.

I work/practice with FM10 on a VISTA Ultimate box, also on my home network. This box does not have a full version of Filemaker installed. I managed to create a runtime solution and install it on an XP box on my home network. I am a noob to FMpro10 and I'm working my way through a couple different training DVD sets but this issue isn't in either one. I've been googling my brains out and can't find this answer.
